3 Things That Make For A Good Professional Headshot

Hey there!

One of my favorite style of photography is headshots! I love how simple they are and at the same time have the ability to make a huge statement! My good friend and sister in Christ recently reached out to me, in need of headshots because she was recognized as Teacher of the Year (Well Deserved!) So, in today’s blog post, I’ll be listing 3 things I believe will result in the perfect professional headshot!

What to wear? -When consulting with my clients about what to wear for their session, I like to suggest keeping the attire simple, but still include your style and personality. Light tones and solid textures are my favorite, as they will allow you to stand out and remain modest in your look. I love that Sam chose black but accentuated one of her outfits with a soft pink and the other with a nice statement jewelry piece that was sentimental to her.

Where to shoot? - When it comes to choosing the perfect place for your headshot, I like to keep it simple. This helps avoid distractions and surroundings that could take away the focus from the most important subject which is YOU. Anywhere, from a park, your office,  or a nice naturally lit studio would be perfect. In this session we utilized The Cullen Sculpture Garden right in the middle of the Art district of Houston. It has nice neutral tones, lots of shade and many different spots to get a variety of different shots.

What to bring?- Your confidence!  Before your session make a list of  3 or 4 affirmations and recite them to yourself before and even during your session and watch how you thrive!  A confident sense of self helps ease the awkwardness and is the icing on the cake for presenting your best self in front of the camera!
