40th Birthday/Downtown Houston Portrait Session

Hey, y’all!am so excited to share my first session blog post of 2023! I love that this gives me a chance to highlight my amazing clients and shine a spotlight on their true essence!

I became connected to Joy through a mutual friend of ours who is the founder of the Houston based non-profit Own Your Peach. She was attending a fundraiser gala that Own Your Peach was hosting back in December of last year, and while there she won two things from the silent auction. A free make-up appointment and a free portrait session with yours truly! As she would have it, this was just right on time! Joy was coming up on a milestone birthday. And what better way to celebrate than being a model for a day!

As I got to know and connect with Joy over phone conversations, I was drawn to her light-filled spirit. She expressed to me that she wanted something fun, but simple. Immediately Downtown Houston came to my mind! This was the third time shooting in Downtown Houston and I knew the perfect spot!

The day of the shoot had finally arrived, and I was eager to finally meet Joy in person. Our meeting location of choice was at Jones Hall right  in the center of downtown. If you have ever been to Jones Hall I am sure you are familiar with the beautiful architecture and high wall structures, so  I felt that it was the perfect place to start off our downtown adventure. We had both arrived there at the same time..or so we thought. After my third time walking around the building looking for Joy, we both came to the realization that we were at two different places! To my mistake I  had sent her the address to the Jones Hall on St. Thomas University Campus! Smh.  Thankfully it was only 5 minutes away, and SO very thankful that she was such a patient and understanding person in spite  of my unfortunate mishap.

As soon as we embraced and I gave out a ridiculous amount of “I’m so sorry’s”, we were able to finally create magic!  The weather that day was AMAZING and the shade of blue on Joy’s dress was the perfect compliment to each setting! We went from Jones Hall, to the grand steps of the Alley Theatre, and ended on the serene patio of the beautiful Lancaster Hotel

Though we may have gotten delayed it did not stop us from moving forward!
